anyone know how non-destructively, don’t have recreate black stroke around whole thing every time want make change?

steps take now:

  1. create 2 squares, group them, , create appearance (fx>transform) reflect x 1 copy (mirroring object along left side).
  2. expand appearance.
  3. copy all, paste behind, add paths together, , add black stroke.

this gets me want see, it's pain in neck edit/modify/polish. want stroke around both objects in group , still able non-destructively (i.e. don't expand appearance) modify group updating stroke , reflection. can done? without script?

cheers,
