Template advice - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i have used joomla while ago, add articles , basic admin, don't know how use in-depth yet. wondered if advice please?

i want create new website - have installed joomla , , running. haven't yet decided on design website, that's because don't know how approach this, think have 2 options:

a) vague design , hope find template @ least comes close want

b) create own template

i have looked @ basic 'create template' tutorials, doesn't impossible, basic html/css (and more basic javascript/php) skills, should contemplating option? or going way of learning curve?

if opt a) how easy chop , change template choose around? okay, know can move modules different positions, moving positions around? working knowledge of css going enough?

one other question - in central component area main text template using displays 4 articles, 1 on top , 3 below. defines this? css in template files?

you can try 1 of template frames gantry http://www.gantry-framework.org/
it's rockettheme , has tutorial on site. further on rockettheme site lot of support in forum.
if become member of rockettheme can download templates , how css , html build , try yourself. easy change too.
it takes little time trial , error, when used of it's easy. , css , html easy learn while trying , looking around on internet when want something. instance on site: http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp

about other question: can set colums in joomla in blog layout. k2 has option make 1 big article whole site width , below columns. don't have change in template.
if want add modules text etc template limit. instance gantry has more 60 module positions in max 6 colums.
