Thread: 2 Ubuntu 11.04 narly narwhal(or w/e it is) problems

one problem whenever try install software deb file or try find software in ubuntu software center, installing seperate file opens u.s.c , when try find software software center sits there , searches.

other problem when try edit files in etc or in main file system im aloud read, not edit, , cant change file permissions, im user, , have admin rights, why cant edit files? please help!

to edit files on system, need root access. in ubuntu, root user disabled default. shouldn't enable because ubuntu gives sudo, command precede every command need execute root. example, opening file in /etc directory editing:

sudo gedit <filename>

that give access it. when installing .deb files, ubuntu tries through software center. used different, that's how it's done. so, if download , try install .deb file, u.s.c. come up. it's starting several seconds, patient! after while, bring .deb file , give option install it.

if start navigating around inside of u.s.c. after opening trying install .deb package, not work expected. u.s.c., when opened way, opened begin with. again, takes couple of seconds before loads .deb file.
