Thread: How to setup mutiple architecture development environment under Ubuntu 11.04

i have installed ubuntu 11.04 amd64 (64 bits) os , try take advantage of new multiple architecture support of latest ubuntu version cross compile ia32 applications being able develop amd64 (64 bits) applications. have followed these instructions setup multiple architecture environment :

http://wiki.debian.org/multiarch/implementation

  • add apt::architectures { "amd64"; "i386"; }; /etc/apt/apt.conf
  • add foreign-architecture i386 /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg
  • run apt-get update refresh package cache newly added architecture

try use synaptic package manager update both current architecture (amd64) , i386 architecture development packages. (i can see both package displayed synaptic). when try install i386 package synaptic complains , says remove amd64 package because if conflict i386 package. expect both can coexist able cross compile.

example try install both :

libglog4cxx10-dev , libglog4cxx10-dev:i386

how can use synaptic install both development package? if not possible how can setup development environment ?
