Thread: Monitor Settings Problem

okay, 11.04, gnome (old machine won't unity, no big deal me) loads automatically , has been wonderful month, since install.

went away couple of days, turned computer off. on reboot evening, monitor settings weren't right/weren't detected correctly.

got rid of bad aspect ratio ("black curtains" on left , right) changing setting on monitor, icons , on full screen desktop big , blurry. i've played around system | preferences | monitors settings, nothing fixes problem. says...

monitor: unknown
resolution: 1024 x 768 (4:3)
refresh: 60hz
rotation: normal

other rez choices (800x600, 848x480, 640x480) make matters worse.

i'd appreciate help...in small, easy words. frustrating. never looked @ these settings before, right.

thanks!
