Thread: 11.04 hangs in startup after partial upgrade

i attempted upgrade files in 11.04 didn't complete. when rebooted computer, got hung on "checking battery state... [ok]." tried troubleshooting based on info in of threads mention problem, nothing helped. now, when reboot, gives me "checking battery state" message, other times hangs on other messages, e.g.,
*enabling additional executable binary formats binfmt-support [ok]
*starting cups printing spooler/server [ok]
*starting anac(h)ronistic cron [ok]
*stopping anac(h)ronistic cron [ok]
[ok]

displays 1 of first 2 lines, , other times displays last line (blank line "[ok]" @ end).

i'm still learning linux, i'm not sure other information necessary diagnose problem aside this:
