glad tutorial (for don't want watch, it's acrobatusers.com tutorial series i'm talking combining swf content inside 3d annotations).
the simple answer question no, there other things think before deploying content of type:
- the ability view 3d content in acrobat x family same in version 9. no viewing license required , isn't going change, content of pdf file iso standard. can write pdf rendering application support 3d rich media annotations (rmas), 'proprietary' element involved flash player , that's free install.
- acrobat x pro can create 3d rmas provided 3d models in u3d or prc format. again, no third-party licenses can ever required import u3d or prc both file formats open standards.
- to convert other types of 3d model u3d or prc must use third-party software, of there many choices available. tetra4d not own either format, sell converter library. other people. free.
- tetra4d is plugin developer , reseller. it's in commercial interest many people possible use type of content, wouldn't restrict that.
- rendering rmas in adobe reader or acrobat requires javascript , flash player support, means it's unlikely ever happen on ios political reasons, , increasingly unlikely happen on other mobile platforms commercial reasons.
- given high target profile of pdf , swf there's ever-tighter security restrictions on rmas , scripting, people creating pdfs have used customers being presented warning messages.
- we've seen decoupling of flash player acrobat 9 family, requiring separate download preventing offline installation. draw own conclusions.
- i don't see rma support being depreciated on desktop for time being, equally don't think around forever. example (not saying it's going happen!!) if 1 day iso support html5 annotations, swf won't needed anymore. if of cad/cam vendors natively exported prc (as iges or obj) market converter libraries won't needed either.
