Thread: How to fix Ubuntu 10.04 LTS to play audio cds?

recently, upgraded ubuntu version 10.04 lts version 9.04. however, if put cd in computer, computer doesn't know contains audio disc. disc isn't found in audio music program(obviously). believe disc drive/hardware fine, listened cds regularly on computer when still using 9.04. there terminal commands or sequences of terminal commands can remedy this, installing drivers or something?(sorry. don't know "computer-talk") or perhaps there error in default preferences of new distro? appreciated, ideally have terminal code copy , paste. can help!

this problem has popped few times recently. can play audio cds commandline installing mplayer:

code:
sudo apt-get install mplayer
and running following:

code:
mplayer -cache 2048 cdda://
hopefully @ least music playing, not sure underlying issues if works...
