Thread: Last resort on AR5001 chipset.

i know there 500,000 posts on chipset. feel though i've read them all.

situation : wife's laptop has ar5001 wireless adapter laptop model toshiba satellite a215

problem : wireless networking randomly loses connectivity , can not regain connectivity, apparent solution full power down , not work. card works under windows, hates windows. (i love this) know it's not faulty hardware , because work days on end under windows without problems.

things i've tried :

madwifi drivers (any , versions available) : these increase stability of signal , seem delay inevitable still happens. when using these drivers option unload them modprobe -r reboot remove them again , re add them. makes no sense why works, , if don't remove them prior rebooting not work.

ath5k drivers : these pretty junk, results unpredictable @ best, work few hours, not work @ all. nothing repeatable, can't seem force whatever condition causing this. rfkill not show wifi being blocked (hard or soft), unblocking anyway nothing, way make work , it's iffy power down wait 5-10 minutes turn on , may decide work.

firmware update : updated toshiba bios latest version of firmware 2.0 no joy here either. same issue both sets of drivers.

tried different distros , kernels : i've tried mint 9, 10 ,11 ; ubuntu 10.10, 10.04 , 9.10 , 11.04 (which installed) , fedora , opensuse. giving same problems. have tried slew of different kernels no joy of them (i'm not @ computer issue post kernel versions i've used when have access machine).

useful bit of information might , hard switch disable/enable wifi disable turning on absolutely nothing. hotkey nothing @ all. bios not have option disable or enable wireless card.

post typical lsmod , lspci , iwconfig stuff when computer in question. i'm going buy pc card , give on one, driving me insane , see resolved if replace hardware.

last ditch effort maybe may know don't or if has seen post haven't , i've been searching 2 1/2 weeks resolution issue , have seen numerous bug reports chipset. people have reported great success workarounds i've tried, i'm not lucky suppose lol.

in advance can or tries 1 mind boggler

on side note computer first installed natty on , looks amazing lol.

i have same card in 1 laptop , on debian install installed wicd , use connect without issue. network manager part of problem. have seen users have removed network manager, reinstalled , solved problem. have not tried myself.
