Thread: Mount loopback device as root

i trying expand ubuntu partition windows 7 c: drive, win7 partioner not let me shrink because of immovable files. there anyway me loopback device in windows partion, , have ubuntu boot root device?

i going try doing through initrd. however, tried extracting files current initrd, copy them ext2 file created (and mounted). using initrd causes kernel panic when cannot mount root device. exact same commands in grub using original initrd boot properly.

proper way construct initrd image?
also, if knows better way of making loopback device root, please post that.
