Thread: Unable To Move Windows To Second Display

hey guys,

i'm brand new whole ubuntu thing. love far, having issue. installed ubuntu week ago , had no problems getting on second display. sadly had reformat since , have been unable work. background displays on second monitor (42" phillips tv) , cursor move over. however, if try move video or else over, wants dock on ride side of samsung synmaster 2053. have activated nvidia driver nvidia 8800gt graphics card. went nvidia x server settings , recognises there 2 screens. when go through ubuntu , monitor preferences shows 1 monitor , "unknown". detect monitors nothing, nor restart. doesn't seem switching workstations either. suggestions?

you can not use gnome display preference when running nvidia driver.
use nvidia-settings.

way screens working normal "separate x screens" set in nvidia-settings.
allows independent resolution refresh rate (video modes) etc.
preferred configuration full screen video (on 1 screen).
can not drag between screens. can not make icons/shortcut launchers on 2nd screen (you in 8.04).

can direct apps launch on either screen (can edit launcher properties &/or run script).
apps stay on screen launched on (via menu or terminal)..

twinview other option..your desktop becomes meta-mode of both screens video modes. allows dragging etc..

After Effect warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands

i have after effects cs6 in computer cs5.5 installed. 64bit windows 7 ultimate 20gb memory , 2 amd radeon hd 6900 series display adapters drivers updated hour ago (driver date 27.7.2012, version 8.982.0.0).   when trying use after ecffects, error message " after effect warning: problem occurred when processing opengl commands " when clicking composition window.   what done? not much, i'm afraid. need older graphics driver. other disable second card or play configuration. unfortunately not smart person decided cs6 no longer need manual opengl control user, there's no way suppress within program force-revert software-only modes in case of such issues...   mylenium More discussions in After Effects adobe
