Thread: Card readers stopped working, other USB devices OK

solution: not buy cheap china or ebay sd/microsd; not not true memory, can destroy expensive hardware. see below damage caused card readers. after buying replacement card reader pc recognised usb again!

hi in real 'hard basket' expert of sorts, got me beat:
got 32gb microsd cards china have proved rubbish. anyway, after using them in card reader 1 night when working ok, next day no card readers work, , usb drive when plugging in android tablets not work either. here tricky thing; every other device works on same usb port eg pendrive, usb drives , on.
have several usb ports, none of them work flash reader or android tablet external usb drive; known microsd cards (not chinese ones).

not also, same thing happens other pc microsd cards have done host device. have tried using winxp , winvista same results - nothing detected.
have ordered card reader, dont hold hope.
suspect somehow usb drivers have been disabled reader if thats @ possible. doing term 'lsusb' there no change when errant devices plugged in. weird consistent between o/s.
bios pnp in each pc set auto.

i'll report here when new card reader arrives. have tried resetting bios in pc, fake cards have damaged host devices.

(a) no idea why people still this. advice absolutely everywhere. never buy memory cards highly reputable seller. never buy cards above 8 gig major brands (sandisk, kingston, integral etc).
there no way lower costs of sd cards there no way produce them cheaply. on 32 gigabyte cards you're looking @ device packs on 3000 memory units across width of human hair. cannot cut corners on production, new cheap cards fake. no exceptions. there isn't viable method of producing nanoscale electronics undercuts 1 used sandisk @ moment.
