Thread: No Upgrade Option - 10.10 Alternate Disc

i followed official ubuntu instructions tell when things don't "give pop prompt"

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/maverickupgrades

told me this:

code:
gksu "sh /media/cdrom/cdromupgrade"
and said in case:

"if upgrade dialog not displayed reason, may run following command using alt+f2:"

well, did , said along lines of this:

code:
" /bin/sh, etc. sh not found" ... "gksu, command not found"
is there way around or friggin' insane?

i tried unplugging every single storage medium , hard drive in/out of computer.

when booted alternate cd still did not detect system, of ubuntu 10.04 on there.

have used rescue mode on alternate cd , standard "single user - recovery only" mode grub boot loader.

when used modes, did this:

code:
[as root]:  apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
as tried those, apparently old sys. set use:

code:
ftp.ussg.iu.edu:http
that situation denied system , says:

code:
no such address found on host.
is there way can use 1 of these terminal methods net. install, successfully, changing repositories?

don't know how switch repositories command line...
