Thread: Ubuntu Disks Space Confusion
i decided wanted switch windows ubuntu 11.04 since linux can same work windows me
while going fresh installation of linux noticed instead of original laptop hdd space of 350gb said allocated 320gb went install , ready disk manager says have 280gb space please ?
should re install ubuntu missing hd space ?
before that, have @ partition table , see space allocated. go terminal , use following command (while not logged in root):
this bring partition table , show disk space allocated. suspecting is showing 280gb because system set show space directly available user, , not showing things boot partition, swap partition(s), , extended partition(s).code:cfdisk
came across similar on weekend. bought brand new machine on box said had 500 gb of space on hard drive. when got home, said had 325 gb. being used 40gb hard disk space, tons of space, having spent money 500, wondered it. when took @ partition table, showing 325 allocated "c" drive, while rest in boot partition, swap partition (i'm assuming that's was), , rest free space.
in all, don't think ubuntu shrank hard disk, rather it's not showing things normal user never have access.
