Thread: uninstalling an application installed with a .sh file

i having trouble installing mathematica 8 , found workaround: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...47&postcount=2

workaround involves uninstalling mathematica installing in specific way. seem unable uninstall program because after delete directories /usr/local/wolfram , /.mathematica, after reinstall, mathematica activated. activation data must located somewhere haven't removed.

there general way remove trace of program installed .sh file? alternatively, there common locations data? don't understand meaning of 3-letter directories "usr" , "etc", these things seem installed.

running ubuntu 10.10, if that's relevant.

many thanks

matt

check in /usr , /opt, folder of it's stuff should in 1 of those, , include uninstall.sh there.
