Thread: Bad sectors reported at the end of installing Ubuntu 10.04.2

i have laptop amilo pro 2035.
till there installed windosxp , running without problem.
decided install ubuntu 10.04.2 lts.
after finishing installation, before restart, appeared long list of bad sectors.
see happening run disk utility , showed healthy disk, without bad sectors, trying install openerp 6.0 had lot of problems loosing connection between server , client. printing on network printer impossible because of bad sectors.
how can rid of situation? think "bad sectors" untrue.

hey there,

on establishing bad-blocks:
when had bad-blocks added them bad-block list
like:
html code:
e2fsck -c device
i think problems remain should not due bad-blocks...
also
remember validating bad-blocks hd-streaming speed. (i cannot remember command revealed reading speed ... 'lsof' maybe?)
slow reading speeds can result in time-outs. try increase time-out threshold maybe?

maybe try put live-cd on usb stick , scan linux-distribution version reinforce ubuntus findings.

older laptops hat special disc-geometry, work preinstalled windows.
maybe should search on web known disc-geometry issues model.
(had such problems acer travelmate, ... , acer laptops partly produced same manufacturer medion laptops.)

luck!
