are concerned grub installed partition boot sector of sda1? grub not use install partition , in fact makes difficult install partition if try manually. still seem let install grub2's boot loader anywhere on new install combo box.
mbr (msdos) computers boot bios, mbr, additional code. windows use mbr determine primary partition has boot flag (active partition) , jumps there more code. grub2 not use partition boot sector has additional code after mbr finds grub folders , uses grub files.
grub or bios misreport drive. same drive not same drive. mine says same drive sda, boots correct partition in sdc. have 4 partitions in sda , booting sdc13 obvious same drive not correct.
newer grub 1.99 , latest version of script identify more correctly shows uuid uses find correct boot partition.
