Thread: Help testing server security
hi folks, i'm running 10.04 ubuntu server 64 bit edition. it's on mini-itx box built, , drawing less 60 watts. i'm using hosting xhtml website, 2 wordpress blogs, citadel email service, funambol server, ampache media server, project pier installation, encrypted filesystem backups, , mysql database.
here in australia we've had number of sites hacked , crashed... while know i'm unlikely able protect myself everything, i'd love few knowledgeable people how make server secure possible. other that, plan keep regular backups, , learn how reinstall if needed.
above services, use ssh gain access server. have turned on password authentication, correct certificates, resides on 2 netbooks. infrequently online, /home parition of 1 encrypted.
don't use ftp, , while have webmin installed, i've configured way login wirelessly through local network. yes, if knew root password, , standing out side of house netbook, log in root. disabled traffic coming internet, i'm not concerned.
said, love tips security, , how avoid crash , burn seems come recent attacks on other servers. happy point people @ server see how many security vulnerabilities can me uncover. have done lot of reading, appreciate targeted particular installation. in advance help. cheers.
