Thread: Seagate 2TB External HDD Gone RAW
alright, i've spent week trying solve problem no success. need third party input before continue plans drive. here's story.
have seagate freeagent 2tb external hard drive, filled halfway data, important data, need save. no joke. external on ground , accidentally stepped on usb cord, broke input external. having broken 1 before, did did before. took hdd out , hooked computer, problem showed raw format. worked fine, it's raw , asking me reformat. spent several days using photorec recover files, barley recovered anything. tried several other programs no avail. once asked me reinitialize hdd, biggest mistake, after doing in windows drive shows "unallocated space" , can't used tools such redcuva or ntfs undelete recover it, because can't select hdd , in linux says doesn't support guid file system.
need save data on external , thinking of creating ntfs partition on external , trying use recuva or ntfs undelete try recover data, or icare data recovery or easeus data recovery.
got input on this? what's best course of action ensure can recover data? other way use linux repair ntfs partition or write ntfs file system without damaging files?
thanks,
pcpro12
raw means has lost ntfs signature in partition boot sector or pbr.
if backup ok work. (ntfs has backup of boot sector). wrote grub pbr overwriting windows pbr. recovery same.
fix most, few have other issues, better windows fix in many cases fixes other parameters:
has instructions on using testdisk repair install of grub boot sector windows ubuntu or linux livecd.
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawik...ms:boot_sector
if not windows fixboot or possibly using testdisk rewrite new pbr may work. try recovery of backup testdisk first.
