Thread: Switching GPUs screen crash issue

hello

got hands on second desktop computer, dad using server. since not need server anymore, i've been remodelling computer fit needs past few days. after adding ram , new hard drive (in order put ubuntu on without removing windows server 2008 - microsoft os, it's decent os), decided switch gpus 1 had on computer, since can handle compositing.

here's thing. gpu worked fine on previous machine (which decided ditch server more powerful hardware-wise), , more annoyingly, works fine under windows server 2008 on machine, cannot handle linux @ all. i've tried 11.4, 10.4 , debian, screen spits out error , freezes. now, go old video card , lighter de, i'm kinda used running compiz (not pretty effects, because find intuitive), , don't want give on having computer work way want yet.

gpu gigabyte geforce 8800 gts, 320 mb model iirc (nvidia powered). i'm not complete newbie when comes configuring xorg, vesa, nouveau, , proprietary drivers crash, i'm pretty out of options here. don't want resort switching distros test yet because don't want spend ages getting ubuntu studio audio packages give me out of box in 2 simple commands...

ideas on causing crashes?

After Effect warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands

i have after effects cs6 in computer cs5.5 installed. 64bit windows 7 ultimate 20gb memory , 2 amd radeon hd 6900 series display adapters drivers updated hour ago (driver date 27.7.2012, version 8.982.0.0).   when trying use after ecffects, error message " after effect warning: problem occurred when processing opengl commands " when clicking composition window.   what done? not much, i'm afraid. need older graphics driver. other disable second card or play configuration. unfortunately not smart person decided cs6 no longer need manual opengl control user, there's no way suppress within program force-revert software-only modes in case of such issues...   mylenium More discussions in After Effects adobe
