Thread: Trying to set up homebrew "cloudtop" client systems
hello all; i'm working on project roll out custom cloudtop / internet appliance systems , running few snags , wondering if offer suggestions.
current plan roll out few hundred intel atom mini itx boxes remote locations customized *nix install on 16gb usb flash drive local storage. idea information stored on our central sftp file server. end result we're hoping end user log in on box , load user profile onto system ( browser profile, address book , imap settings email program). after mapped file server network mount location.
relatively simple implement few startup scripts; given of remote locations on slow internet connections (256kbps; best can out in middle of nowhere) latency uploading , downloading need access start bite time. , since there 16gb accessible on local system (minus os overhead) , few users go on make sense set sort of local caching.
i'm sort of stuck on that; needs instantly backed on remote server , have transparent box-to-box portability , needs account few users go on amount of space have locally. , i've been racking brain (and google-foo) figure out how implement; come breaks @ least 1 of criteria extent. i'm sure there services out there able take care of end of us, higher ups insistent not rely on third party services project.
tl;dr i'm looking make cromeos without using googles, how do? [sic]
