Interface Oddity or Problem? ...while moving LR to new computer.

after lots of research , study... no answer found - here or elsewhere, so:

 

bulit new computer. first: win7 pro, 64-bit os. old rig home premium 64-bit, surprised if issue. moved ivy bridge i7 3770 processor, new motherboard , os. new bigger ssd the  c drive, , of course fresh os install. move lr, studied steps posts here , elsewhere initial "migration , reawakening" of lr4 not appearing follow 1 part of usual scenarios.

 

i don't see little symbols on thumbnails -- show metadata associated picture -- re-connection proceeds. perhaps normal, worried me stopped process. here details:

 

i use large internal drive photo storage, holding lightroom-managed images in top-level folder called "lightroom". there bunch of folders underneath level managed lr4 coupe of weeks on previous rig , before lr3.5, lr2, etc. bought newer drive (same make , model of 2tb drive) part of move new motherboard , copied old hierarchy newer drive. last night, final step transition reassigned letter "e:" new drive, same letter had been used old data drive , therefore letter in lr paths each photo.  repeat:  lr4.1 had been used on older motherboard , had used "e:" hierarchy successfully. figured lightroom's ".lrcat" file holding metadata images partly based on finding in same path. figured easier "find" images if drive letter same.

 

i clicked add source "+" symbol , added "lightroom" folder on "e:" after time chugging away displays me suggested import of pictures big folder , subfolders feels not duplicates. disturbingly, of these think should have been in database. more importantly, among many grey-out images there *no* little metadata markers on images greyed out show lr thinks duplicates. maybe metadata didn't make it. not if so.

 

i have canceled add operation. didn't expect find missing…" operation "import" operation.

 

my ".lrcat" file 649mb 60,000 images. when lr came in new os told me there 56,000 images misplaced.  associated preview file 22.4gig , has 74,000 files , on 44,000 folders. did previously-established  keywords , seem there, in operation told cannot associate metadata during "add" aren't showing in right pane during "add" think of "find".

 

perhaps interface not showing associations metadata. apparent use of add function worried me, too, despite greyed out images guess "found".

 

thoughts anyone?

perhaps tell did, saw in posts, steps followed, uninformative.

 

it sound rest of post using form of import dialog box, have (or tried to) imported photos. way can interpret information. please confirm.

 

the appropriate method of moving catalog , photos 1 computer not involve using import dialog box. before can diagnose if did right thing, have tell did.

 

there several ways move catalog , photos, , sounds if moved photos properly. if did that, , photos in exact same path in on old computer, move catalog file (and associated presets , preferences) new computer , double-click on catalog file.
