Thread: Boot hangs without external hard drive

dual booted windows 7 , natty narwhal, ubuntu boot hangs if external hard drives aren't present upon boot. both os's loaded onto internal drive.

most grub2 installed on external drive. can install on internal drive mounting ubuntu partition , installing g2 while using livecd:
code:
sudo mount /dev/sdxy /mnt sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sdx
change x internal drive (a,b,c, etc)
change y internal drive partition ubuntu (1,5, etc)
not use y value in second command.
make sure computer's bios boots internal drive first.

if doesn't work, click "bis" link in signature line, run boot info script , post contents of results.txt.
