Thread: Difficulty Mounting Volumes on a Partitioned External HD
i'm having great deal of difficulty external hard drive. i'm running dual boot system (xp service pack 3 , ubuntu 11.04 natty narwahl) on dell inspiron b120. i'm trying set new 80 gb hitachi external hd. using gparted, formatted drive , set partitions. partitioning scheme follows 10gb ntfs primary, 2gb linux-swap primary, 50gb fat32 primary, 12gb unallocated. after applying changes, went disk utility , hd appears along correct partitions. when try mount volumes partitions 1 , 3, pop-up stating:
error mounting volume
error occurred while performing operation on "home"
(partition 3 of hts548080m9at00): daemon being inhibited.
when try to check filesystem pop-up stating:
error checking filesystem on volume
error occurred while performing operation on "home"
(partition 3 of hts548080m9at00): daemon being inhibited.
throughout time i'm attempting troubleshoot problem, external drive light on , blinking. frustration hitting boiling point, try shut down drive , remove can plug in different external hd works perfectly.
however, when try shut down , safely remove drive, pop-up stating:
error detaching drive
error occurred while performing operation on "80gb hard disk"
(hts548080m9at00): daemon being inhibited.
can tell me i'm doing wrong? i'm newbie , not skilled terminal commands, please dumb down me if request specific command output.
