what have ibm thinkpad t20 2647. pentium iii 700 mhz, 128 mb) based on type on bottom of machine , cnet. opened ram bay , there 2 chips, 1 saying 128 mb, presumably has 256mb ram.
machine surplus , comes w2k professional installed. when first tried boot 10.10 live cd, noticed error. tried write down got far

, error message readwhen ubuntu installation screen came up, tried several times install ubuntu cursor spin hours. somehow ended causing issue bios left off overnight , tried again. when went "try ubuntu" instead of installing it, brought user authentication (presumably w2k/pro) , not further that.code:ubuntu 10.10 [ 105.934786]`piix4_smbus 0000:00:0 7.3: ibm system detected; module may corrupt serial eeprom! refusing t o load module!
once again rebooted , went install... got preparing install page once again, cursor spinning. have not gotten further that. have "enhanced" 10.04 cd going try luck advice welcome. don't care on hdd , format ext3 or 4.
