DITA & empty tags

i have dita task tags don't populate required dtd (i.e. title of task). in tasks, want title, in others don't. issue is: when save ditamap pdf (or else) in fm11, creates title.1 paragraph element wherever there title tag in xml. fine there title display, when there no title content space equivalent title.1 paragraph format - following content therefore shifted down.

 

can edit edd like, if (no content) ignore?

either that, or using dita wrong wanting task title on occasions?

 

it if explained decent user documentation. far can see, there little in way of thorough fm & dita tutorials.

in dita, titles required .. always. isn't framemaker issue, it's dita issue. framemaker editor, didn't create data model, there's no reason expect provide documentation on data model's best practices. information on using dita, should go dita.xml.org, or buy 1 of many books on using dita. concepts presented in books apply editors, including framemaker.

 

on other hand, framemaker *should* provide better documentation on using framemaker interface , framemaker-specific dita features. docs woefully lacking in areas .. should not expect them provide basic information dita data model.

 

maillists every dita/framemaker user should subscribe (these yahoo groups) ..

 

- dita-users (for questions dita model, dita-ot publishing issues)

- framemaker-dita (for framemaker/dita questions)

- dita-fmx-users (only if you're using dita-fmx plugin framemaker)

 

to answer question .. yes, can edit edd , dtd make title element optional. however, make files non-compliant dita specification. don't recommend doing this, wouldn't first person so. if this, you're see problems publishing , using tools expecting using "real" dita .. possible.
