Thread: 11.04 on Asus Pro 36J Series (nvidia driver problem)
so seems i'm first 1 here trying ubuntu run on notebook. nice slim notebook intel core i5 cpu , nvidia 310m gpu inside.
list updated
works out of box:
- sound
- function keys
- wifi
- touchpad
- suspend (needs workaround http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...ht=nvidia+310m)
- intel video card (embedded in cpu) works without nvidia support (disable nvidia card save power http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...ht=nvidia+310m)
not work @ all
- nvidia 310m card better video performance
- usb 3.0 port seems dead, it's power soucre far
that's know far.
biggest concern suspend. problem is, notebook doesn't go suspend when manually execute sudo pm-suspend or when click suspend in menu in gui. instead shows black screen flashing cursor , stays way. no chance make go entirely sleep or wake @ all.. hold power button 10s , turn on after that.
suspect problem connected incorrect video driver being used.. i've tried both binary nvidia driver versions: ubuntu packaged version , latest version nvidia's webpage.
outcome same: nvidia module loaded when xorg starts doesn't find device.. unlike other notebooks xorg not able find screen, 1 here unable find nvidia card allthough lspci shows card fine , module loaded too.. i've blacklisted , uninstalled nouveau doesn't resolve problem either.
use nvidia in other pc's , it's working fine can't work ont hat asus notebook .. have suggestions how driver run on notebook? ..
lspci:
/var/log/xorg.0.log:code:01:00.0 vga compatible controller: nvidia corporation gt218 [geforce 310m] (rev a2)
code:[ 20.856] (ii) loading extension dri2 [ 20.856] (ii) loadmodule: "nvidia" [ 20.856] (ii) loading /usr/lib/xorg/extra-modules/nvidia_drv.so [ 20.856] (ii) module nvidia: vendor="nvidia corporation" [ 20.856] compiled 4.0.2, module version = 1.0.0 [ 20.856] module class: x.org video driver [ 20.856] (ii) nvidia dlloader x driver 270.41.06 mon apr 18 14:55:25 pdt 2011 [ 20.856] (ii) nvidia unified driver supported nvidia gpus [ 20.857] (--) using vt number 8 [ 20.859] (ee) no devices detected.
and here's first self-reply.. found thread helped fixing suspend problem.. i'll try disabling nvidia card later
