Thread: How can ubuntu compete with Windows when there's no quality DVD software?
apparently can't purchase powerdvd linux because ubuntu has not paid off hollywood dvd consortium. totem piece of crap no matter try not play commercial dvds. after installed libraries supposed allow dvd play on ubuntu i'm able vlc play dvds. vlc kinda ridiculous. can't figure out how rewind movie. has no rewind button, doesn't display chapter or title watching. can fast-forward, there's no button make play normal speed once i've started fast-forwarding. it's ergonomic-use nightmare.
prefer pay ubuntu (say $30, mac os costs) ubuntu can pay off can support dvd , other restricted codecs. professional quality software cyberlink's powerdvd made work ubuntu.
mean, if want able sit down , watch dvd (with rewind capability etc) or stream movie, can't ubuntu. yet major function of compouter use. it's frustrating because operationally, ubuntu blows windows away. functionally (with app choices) it's lacking bigtime.
solution charge money ubuntu canonical can pay off right people? if ubuntu had modicum of app support windows has, windows dying beast.
lol, dvd players.
