Thread: Need Help 4 User Ubuntu Home Network
i have 4 pcs on network, have 4tb nas array manaully use rsync once week backups. (mostly cause loud don't have on longer need it).
used run 80 user nt40 server domain network windows 95 pcs, wanting me.
want centralized server backup of user home directories. want users able log on server pc (like windows domain logon), , have access home directory if local on pc (ecept on server pc), meaning don't want to nfs share icon. if click on places on top menu bar , computer or home folder shows home folder on server.
want user leverl security meaning don't want them have acces sto others home folders unless specify. want them have access folders (music, pictures, media, etc.
need ubuntu server , samba/nfs, or open ldap server?
nfs seems basic dir/file sharing. samba goes step further allow user authenticaion.
want centrailized server, separate home user directories, public directories. user security.
if local pc goes down, still ahve users stuff on server. , can put in new hd or new pc , setup client side , in nusiness.
i consider using samba open ldap accomplish this. think direct route looking for.
samba user authentication/sharing, ldap domain policies etc.
have heard samba 4 (which in beta believe) offers domain controller functionality within it; not sure how works have not used or done real research on it.
