converting barn house (the photos here if curious: http://foreclosurepedia.org/blog/?cat=23). 1 of goals in create home media server. i'm not rich wanting use computer several years old , have friend add whatever need if buy parts. ideally, computer/server allow access 4 tvs, play music , recorded dvds , allow me browse internet (the browsing isn't necessary nice way put keyboard , monitor in each area instead of independent tower). able record regular tv shows, isn't necessary (i think called mythtv kinda example of software along vlc or whatever). net speed 3000 +/- down , 500 (kbps).

run ubuntu 11.04 , suppose base os using on machine build.

so, need know is:

• what kind of specs need tower accomplish this;
• what kind of software (programs) need run;
• is there step-by-step guide covering this; and
• what other options available might think nice.
