Thread: Poor performance of HD multimedia
hi,
i've noticed both vlc , banshee performing poorly when try play high-def video files - particularly speaking matroska video files.
when performing poorly, it's bit difficult me articulate what's happening... looks player dropping frame every couple of seconds, running vlc -vvv doesn't log frames being dropped. occasional "late picture skipped" message (no more 1 per 8-10 minutes), not enough explain why seems i'm getting frame or 2 dropped every few seconds. frame rate's running slow, don't see how view in vlc.
i've followed steps in sticky on front page of multimedia & video forum through steps 1 , 2. steps 3, 4, , 5 didn't seem contain information relevant problem @ hand or ubuntu 11.04.
if has thoughts on how can address this, i'd appreciate it. happy provide info required regards system. starters, system's running ubuntu ver. 11.04 on radeon hd 5450 video card.
in advance advice.
just wanted post follow-up this, i've been doing tinkering try fix original problem:
i've had success disabling late frame dropping in vlc under:
tools > preferences > > video > un-check "drop late frames". un-checked "skip frames" under same menu.
everything's still bit jerky , stutter-y, though... minor enough irritating. further suggestions appreciated.
