Thread: 4.25 minutes to boot? something's awry

i have multi-boot machine. has 64-bit windows 7 partition , ubuntu 11.04 64-bit partition. windows partition boots nice , quick. ubuntu 11.04 partition takes 4 minutes , 15 seconds boot ridiculously long considering specs on machine:
* gigabyte 880gm-usb3 motherboard
* amd phenom ii x6 1100t 3.3ghz
* 8gb of g. skill ripjaws ddr3 running @ 1600mhz

this post have been able make changes boot configuration better idea of trouble is. removed quiet , splash options see more detailed boot message. appears hanging after line /scripts/init-bottom ... done appears. spends on 3 minutes looking attached photo before allowing me login. hard drive light on entire time appears related kind of drive scan or large file access. unfortunately, i'm not sure how add reboot=a,w option grub boot file -- nor sure how make grub changes permanent. have run dmesg | grep efi instructed , nothing listed efi apparently not in effect here.

i've performed memory test (see attached).

can suggest why might happening? 4-minute boot time much.
