Thread: backing up an iPod
like people ipod, have spent lot of time transferring music onto ipod, arranging playlists etc. and, ubuntu user, have never used itunes. in fact, use gtkpod.
given amount of time have invested in it, there program works on ubuntu can simple (preferably 1 click) backup of music , playlists that, should either lose or stops working, can connect brand new one, click restore , have same on replacement? thought of having transfer , arrange all on again terrifies me!
rhythmbox works well. can open rhythmbox , plug in device , autodetects it. once see of music, drag , drop whole artist/title playlist music library.
, if ever want restore device, follow same procedure, instead of starting inside ipod directory, go rhythmbox's music library one, , drag , drop stuff device. easy.
1 flaw though: rhythmbox doesn't deal various artists cds/albums well, , break down artists/albums. however, if worried that, can install rhythmbox alternative, banshee. know sorts better, cannot remember off hand how hard or easy compared rhythmbox.
