Thread: Can't get 1440x900 resolution back ~WIERD~

i start computer 1 day find resolution @ 1024x768. try several days back, reinstalling ubuntu, etc. found proprietary driver use "is not in use", , can't use proprietary driver. instead, using other driver (not nouveau or whatever is, checked).

details:
card: gts 450
installed packages:
nvidia-current
nvidia-settings
nvidia-common
os: ubuntu 11.04

have tried dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg (or of sort), sudo nvidia-xconfig (which either sets me 600x480 res or 1024x768 res), fiddling xorg.conf settings helped me either minimally or not @ all, or plain destroyed install. please help, want drivers in order, , want able select 1440x900 res resolution list.

, btw, did in xorg.conf file make backups, add modes "1440x900" under section screen subsection display.

please me in strange time of need!

launch driver utility , install recommended driver, reboot, , once starts again, go system>admin>nvidia xorg settings manager. (or that) can set resolution , save xorg config file.
