Alternative layouts & multi-language layers &

for years use multiple layers in indesign different language versions of layouts.

 

alternative layouts in cs6 seemed excellent plus different production intents offset or digital printing have own restrictions or specifications.

 

so, after succesfully using 2 alternative layouts same content , these 2 different printing intents, duplicated language layer (uk english) create new language version (usa english) of brochure, , happens ? liquid layout of second layout refers original parent on uk english layer... unlike other layers?

there smart , quick way tell layer content @ different source/layer?

 

also looking way use "find & replace" on 1 specific layout version. easen process of formatting items or text not controlled styles, , without danger change items should stay unformatted on original layout.

example: text on offset printing standard pantone grey, digital printing text put in 100% black meet restrictions of output device. global "search & replace" impossible, because not recognise selective layout , change text on original layout offset...

 

somebody has alternative or need plugins achieve this?

i think you're think ahead of what's possible.

 

initially alternate layouts aimed @ print or web uses want 2 or more different versions of layout. in current version 1 of implementation, can have differing page size , orientations. can link text , graphics between alternate layouts. can style mapping between layouts. can use smart text reflow feature accomodate adding pages.

 

but there no way have each alternate toward layer. use case isn't possible (as far know, perhaps scripted).

 

also, each alternate layout uses same swatches , ruler measurements wouldn't possible share both print layout , web layout in same document. use case not dealt yet.

 

maybe in next version of indesign?
