Thread: Setting up HD partitions

hi, want install kubuntu on computer alongside w7.

have read kubuntu requires around 4 different partitions. make these partitions using windows partitions tool before installation? when install partitioned? or use kubuntu installer partition tool?

setup this:

hd 1
drive c: windows 7 - 33gb of 326 gb free

drive e: ( 9gb factory partition deleted - want install boot kubuntu here )

format in windows or leave space unallocated?

hd 2
drive d: docs, videos - 40gb of 335gb free

hd3
drive g: docs, videos - 77gb of 590gb free

hard drive 3 has around 70 gb free can use other partitions, do these partitions in windows? or using kubuntu cd?

when installing 2 guided options.

1 - install kubuntu on drive: g wiping out whole hd.

2 - install kubuntu on drive: g using 45gb or 10% of space.

if option #2 erase docs , videos on hd? 1 partion or several?

wanted ( using manual partition )install boot, , system files on hd 1 drive: e, , swap , /home partition on hd 3 drive: g.

if make new partitions , re-size partitions using kubuntu cd erase video, , doc files on hds? or should make these partitions in windows , install respective kubuntu partitions want them go?

or should buy blank hd?

i'm sorry first linux install.

leave space unallocated (don't format in windows ubuntu uses ext file format windows knows nothing about). leave free space , when partitioning part of ubuntu install choose 'manual partitioning' select want install , set partitions (a separate /home wise).
