Thread: Thinking about switch one computer to Ubuntu

i have dell dimension 8400 running on windows xp , starting feel little sluggish on modern internet.

specs has following:

intel pentium 4 single-core 3.0 ghz processor w/ hyper-threading
1gb ddr2 ram
nvidia graphics card 256mb dedicated memory

don't know exact specs of ram , graphics @ moment post them asap.

since windows xp starting feel sluggish, i'm thinking dual-booting winxp , ubuntu. needs everyday needs. on ubuntu, life on internet occasional libreoffice application or occasional video edit. mean "life on internet" running upto 8 tabs @ once, i'm talking streaming hd videos on youtube, pandora radio etc etc, browser of choice, google chrome.

performance of ubuntu based on needs , specs? boot times?

how reliable ubuntu? haven't had greatest experiances linux in past(system failures in around week). want make hassle-free permanent os.

how secure ubuntu? there avs run? firewalls?

possible stream netflix on ubuntu? maybe through boxee or something?

thank you. post again more questions have. can ask me questions answer me.
