PS S6 weird CPU activity!

so here's long story short:

recently i've bought old hp xw8600 workstation (dual xeon 5430@2.66ghz, 8gb ddr2, 2x146gb sas hdd@15.000rpm, nvidia quadro fx4600).

the price $550. know amount of money, in buy i5 2500k system, here in eastern europe (romania), need @ least $1000 such system. think made deal on one.... but... yes there's but!

i've got old intel quad q6600@2.4ghz, 4gb ddr2, radeon hd3870... workstation should have been nice upgrade current system.

the dual xeon cpus setup doubles computational power, @ least in benchmarks.

and considering macpro's run dual xeons, i've figured, "hey, machine blow photoshop , illustrator cs6 out of water!".

boy... wrong!

both ps , ai cs6 on windows have strange way of dealing more cpu 4 cores.

to surprise, hp workstation performing slower old q6600 in both ps , ai cs6.

checking out cpu activity, i've discovered strange... , here's image illustrate this:

ps-cs6_cpu-test.jpg

i've noticed same cpu activity on quad i7 cpus hypethreading enabled act 8 cores when processing information.

this applies in windows btw!!!

repeating same test on osx lion 10.7.4 (hackintosh), using same multiprocessor system (hp xw8600 workstation) 8 cores enabled, work @ same time , @ same intensity, performing better on winwdows.

so either windows 7 doing ****** job @ spreading threads among cpu's cores, or adobe did ****** job @ optimizing photoshop , illustrator cs6 (windows version) 8 cores systems. way adobe premier cs6 uses 8 cores flawlessly working smooth silk (well done adobe!).

i glad if adobe reply here cause serious problem... , i'm not willing throw workstation out window yet!

thought if i'm out of options, try selling same price i've bought , somehow buy current generation pc.

i'll end saying it's not fair have computational power , not being able use in ps , ai cs6!!!

and oh yeah... i've tried every possible variation of the performance settings. i've bought new video card (radeon hd6870) , new 120 gb ssd. still no improvement in performance on hp workstation.

any ideas???

looks you've been working on while.

it occurs me layer-move operation isn't computationally intensive, rather memory bandwidth-intensive.  may not measuring think are.  memory bandwidth may limiting overall speed.

do know photoshop cs6 13.0.1 update came out?  mention because changes the way moving layers around behaves.  interestingly, own dual processor 8 core xeon x5460 pc workstation running windows 7 x64, 13.0.0 found moving layers around more interactive mac users similar system power.  don't know how compare 13.0.1, have found moving layers around faster.

there things multiple processors working independently on own threads faster, while single cores faster better other things.
