Thread: DVD Drive Stopped Working, Ubuntu Doesn't Recognise

hi guys,

can point me in right direction
i've spent few hours trawling google , forums yesterday , today, maybe missed something.

have :

  • ubuntu 10.04 lts
  • dell inspiron 530 / quad core / 6gb ram
  • all updates of yesterday.

(my dvd drive working until removed use in other pc. think might have done stupid unplug dvd drive while pc still powered up.

maybe that's issue.)

since then, ubuntu doesn't recognise it.

  • i've tried removing drive, rebooting, shutting down, installing drive repeatedly.
  • on inserting disk, drive spins briefly, nothing shows in places on left hand side.
  • i've tried usermount program suggested in thread, gives me 'proc' device listed, , i'm able use close button, other 2 greyed out.
  • i've tried sudo mount /media/cdrom (and cdrom0, cdrom1) no change

there command try?

still bit new ubuntu, please feel free explain if addressing 2 year old child !

i've included fstab & mtab below, in case of help.

in advance,
darren

mtab:

code:
