Thread: Installation suggestions (for devs)
hello developers,
first off, note how ubuntu. have been following scene quite few years, had never tried linux before past week or so. far working great me, , feeling @ home. still having xp installed on there because there games play nephew , then, emulate or vitualize them right ditching windows out of window.
there handful of things note how installation went, , general thoughts installation suggestions. keep in mind own opinion, may tend not educated , versed in domain @ times.
here go:
1) nice have option choose size of file-system partition before installation. know there advanced options there, had not required knowledge through there. had been looking simple "desired partition size" input prompt;
2) there nice offline dictionary ubuntu, called "artha." similar wordweb v5.52 xp, , both based on wordnet, developed princeton university, , gave off free (bsd) software. thought, "hey, nice have bundled software future releases of ubuntu." well, admit "rare" , "common" word tags ugly, have contacted author or input concerning feeling that. but, think being bundled?;
3) upon installing, there 2 ticks @ bottom. adding p7zip-rar proprietary software alongside other such software idea? users benefit that? might question;
4) why not add automatic adblock-plus installation there, alongside flash, while @ it? might render web no place revenue website developers, not it? bad idea. think?
5) why not add tick on page, below "download updates while installing" tickbox, saying "apply updates after downloading?" might save desiring users time installation, , allow them benefit more-automated installation;
6) 1 not installation process @ all, wondering of mine on reason why mounted isos of downloaded videos refuse seek upon playing through default media player? mean, if extracted folder before playing, seek correctly, if played directly through mounted iso, 1 not able forward or go backwards in time. curious reason why is. known issue. sorry lack of searching.
please input own thoughts numbers. not required agree. polite. normal etiquette. nothing new, of course.
i doubt if devs have time read forums here. better place submit ideas http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/
