Thread: Large SATA II drive on old computer problems

problem: i'm having difficulties using brand new 2tb wd sata ii hdd in old desktop

trial 1: hooked , tried it
result: bios didn't see it. when tried search ide drives bios locked up
research: turns out bios old, , can't use hard drive on motherboard sata ii slots.

trial 2: left drive in computer , hooked front of sataii enclosure interface (sata ii usb make externals internals), cut hole in strip in , ran usb cable interface usb port on of computer.
result: no good; ubuntu can't squat it.
research: think current ubuntu may not handle size of drive, i've read wd page , seams there built in support these drives in th kernel (i'm still new understand please excuse self proclamation of ignorance there)

trial 3: used usb interface connect newer netbook
result: wasn't able use it

thought: maybe can't use because haven't formatted yet
thought: how heck can format if can't use it?

question: if buy new sata ii card desktop interpret drive nicely bios? think saw can't seem find again.
