Collections v folders

i keep image folders in 1 master catalog on 1 disk.

 

my system of filing have main folder, "airshows", sub folders named  "original-raw files" , "finished files".

each sub folder further sub divided "show 1", "show 2", "show 3", etc.

 

this system enable me to  duplicate  files in such way can accessed programmes other lightroom.

 

i make collections of specific planes appear , therefore collections can include images taken @ any  number of individual shows lr3 keeps folders , collections in different sections, entails looking in 2 different locations  images taken @ airshows.another disadvantage believe lr collections cannot accessed other third party programmes should wish change adobe.

 

i maintain current filing system (which suits purposes), wish find way file say,"spitfire" collection as  "airshow\finished files\spitfire" files kept together.

 

is there way achieve without resorting making duplicate image files ?

this 1 of lightroom's great strengths. not need duplicate image files achieve "spitfire" collection (or keyword), photos many different folders can become part of "spitfire" collection. however, if requirement want spitfire collection in own folder, have create duplicates.

 

your problem illustrates limitation of organizing via folders, , cannot overcome unless eliminate requirement "spitfire" in own folders. people create, temporarily, spitfire folder, export collection spitfire folder, display photos via whatever mechanism want, , when not longer needed, eliminate folder. of course, option browse/display spitfire photos inside of lightroom, eliminating need new folder containing duplicates of photos.

this correct, , in opinion, reason use keywords instead of collections purpose. keywords can transferred other photographic software, , can stay photo.
