Lightroom 4 crashes on import

windows 7, home edition, version 6.1 service pack 1

intel 7, more 400gb memory available

i've spent more 32 hours trying solve problem, including 2 phone calls , 3 chat sessions adobe desk.  desk takes me through same checklist of "fixes" previous calls , inquiries , has resulted in wasting more hours of time.

to date have tried following fix issue:

- uninstall , reinstall , without lr 4.1 update

- create new administrator account on machine , run lr off new account instead

- create new catalogue every import (which kind of defeates purpose of having lr begin with)

- wipe out old preferences file , allow lr create new one

- wipe hard drive , reinstall on again

- rebuild catalogues scratch on new, fresh install of lightroom

- limit cache size in lr preferences

- limit backups in lr preferences

- change 1:1 previews

- attempt import images nikon 90, d3s , d800 only, each on fresh lr install (in effort see if particular camera model causing issue)

- attempted import directly hard drive, rather external or internal card reader

each time have no more day of proper working conditions before program hangs , windows pops warning program has ceased respond , must close.  lightroom rather useless if can not import images.

i'm out of solutions or fixes, , out of patience too.  i'd continue using lightroom products because of how integral workflow.  @ point i'm ready switch competitor if issue can not solved.

oh dear, have had time of it!  sorry hear that!

one thing didn't mention - else plugged computer?  phones or tablet pc's nearby?  networks drives?  cloud storage?

is @ import hangs?  hang import dialog open or @ stage?  import dialog populated previews?

and it's hanging when you're importing hard drive too?
