Seeking broad guidance on home video scheme

hello,

 

i'm interested in resources can point provides  guidance  on designing home-video set up.

for example, after many years , many tweaks, i've found flow works photos; folder structure, naming convention, face tags, content tags, etc.  has taken while, photos stored in way can access them intuitively based on i'm looking for....

 

i'm still bit lost when comes best set-up videos.  know there many factors, , no solution works everyone.  i'd interested hear how other folks have arranged 'archiving scheme' store , allow intuitive access home videos.  i'm sure there many factors haven't considered , tips never think of....  looking forward wisdom community.

 

though i'm interested in learning how other folks have designed systems, here's brief snapshot of am, , hope go:

 

context: basic every day family home videos / memories

source: raw unedited video past 12 years or so, in several formats (still on 8mm needing captured, .mod files, 720 mp4 files,)

 

goal

choose output format (i realize there's no single answer). flexible on space/quality tradeoffs.

i'm thinking want avoid dvds: access pc , apple tv device (jailbroken, accept pretty video format).

considering no dvds, love tips on meaningful folder/naming structure, etc. make accessing videos intuitive based on context of event (do put week vacation in 1 40min video file, or there elegant way arrange multiple files.. etc)

 

again, know there no perfect answers - love advice , thoughts group.
