Thread: 11.04 on old Dell D500, Outputs to Monitor but doesn't detect Monitor

hi guys , gals,

i'm new linux , thought i'd start dual boot on old laptop (dell d500) natty narwhal , xp. installation went smoothly (after working out partioning) , have working linux os. thing have query on @ moment this; have laptop connected samsung 226bw 22" 1680 x 1050 screen via vga, , while can use screen in mirrored mode, can't switch of laptop screen, or set specific settings monitor (using system/preferences/monitors), displays "unknown" , doesn't when click on detect button. graphics on laptop handled intel 855gm.

have tried system/administration/additional drivers, doesn't detect monitor either. using ubuntu classic ui unity won't run on old hardware. want possible? have googled couldn't find addressing specific problem.

help, advice or direction appreciated.

After Effect warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands

i have after effects cs6 in computer cs5.5 installed. 64bit windows 7 ultimate 20gb memory , 2 amd radeon hd 6900 series display adapters drivers updated hour ago (driver date 27.7.2012, version 8.982.0.0).   when trying use after ecffects, error message " after effect warning: problem occurred when processing opengl commands " when clicking composition window.   what done? not much, i'm afraid. need older graphics driver. other disable second card or play configuration. unfortunately not smart person decided cs6 no longer need manual opengl control user, there's no way suppress within program force-revert software-only modes in case of such issues...   mylenium More discussions in After Effects adobe
