Thread: ATI HD 4870 - total crash after kernel update...
hi,
have done fresh install of 10.10 (full updates) new hd 4870, downloaded last catalyst 11.6 amd, have done normal procedure of driver installation, ubuntu booted correctly, changed options in ccc, 1 of them "video tearing option" after x crashed, rebooted machine, stays way, before login screen, x crashes (corrupted image) reset button restarts machine.
removed installed driver, purged configurations , started on using deb package creation procedure of driver , manual script installation, stays same way, removed again driver, installed oss driver, logins correctly, tested restricted driver of ubuntu repository, works, no "video tearing option".
done new fresh install of 10.10 (no updates), installed driver , enabled "video tearing option", ok, if upgrade kernel problem returns (if "video tearing option" enable), managed overcome video tearing option enabling vsync.
after this, question how can reset ccc settings via command line, aticonf --initial dont work in case, ccc keeping settings in config file (i think) dont know location, googled, no concrete answer found, need because want testing, , annoying remove, install , reinstall driver when x enters crash loop.
thank in advance,
see ya all...
so know why & problem is.
sudo rm /etc/x11/xorg.conf
use synaptic purge catalyst, install fglrx-amdcccle
, check have fallback drivers installed (vesa, ...)
