Thread: Rule of Thumb for Swap

hello,
installing ubuntu on friend's system , wondering general rule of thumb how should allocate swap partition?
-deathbylinux

it used 2.5 times ram, or something. nowadays swap isnt necessary @ on modern systems, still should have @ least same amount of swap ram if wish use hibernate function, since offloads ram contents swap , cause problems if swap fills up.
