Thread: video resolution causing problems?
hello again,
here's deal. have older hp (pavilion xt963) , working relatively fine (no suspend) untill hooked (questionable quality) lcd screen. i've upgraded lucid(clean install) , here issues. can not restart system via os, nor can shut down without holding down power button. toolbars seem have disappeared (gone out of video range?) i've solved using "gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel
rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel
pkill gnome-panel"
putting "pkill gnome-panel" in startup.
pretty sure new higher resolution bieng used monitor cause of all. garbage monitor using (1024x768) system shutdown , restart, , had no toolbar issue. @ 1440x900.
i have same monitor. perhaps hardware drivers aren't supporting it. i'm not going have brand new top of line machine, there cases when won't work things. if have unity installed, grub menu resolution such can't read text on screen, tells me video mode not supported. have 2 seconds scroll down need (figuring out trial , error guessing) , enter before monitor turns off.
installer vector linux doesn't monitor either. first forces me choose different resolution, still doesn't of choices gave me , cuts out.
have video card installed? if so, can set main video output , see if helps. yesterday found if had main video output on graphics card , plug monitor in there, had fewer issues resolution. downside that, though, couldn't enable highest quality desktop appearance setting anymore.
also, thing made me curious why there never setting 1440x900 on of installers' menu ask select screen resolution.
lastly, don't think monitor interfering ability restart , shutdown os. if test that, unplug monitor, press ctrl + alt + delete, down arrow (if recall defaults correctly), enter, , see if restarts without monitor.
