Thread: What processor?

hello all.

want build new desktop/server (running linux, of course). i'm torn between amd , intel. why need multiple cores? work in computational biology , sending simulation tasks many cores have. problems
embarrassingly parallel. languages of choice: python , r.

since don't want spend $1000 on intel six-core, looks options 6-core amd or 4-core intel.

disappointed in performance of amd processor?

considering liquid cooling option: several reasons (one being pure fun). have experience in overclocking these chips?

i'm not looking flame war better, amd or intel. thought if posted on here, might offer me advice haven't considered yet.

i'd hear comments on motherboards. i've had best of luck asus. pc not used gaming machine.

i know in amd cpus using non-stock cooling device voids warranty idk wiht intel cpus
newegg having server issues right now

if go i7 go quad core 4 threads not worth 700$ imo

After Effect warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands

i have after effects cs6 in computer cs5.5 installed. 64bit windows 7 ultimate 20gb memory , 2 amd radeon hd 6900 series display adapters drivers updated hour ago (driver date 27.7.2012, version 8.982.0.0).   when trying use after ecffects, error message " after effect warning: problem occurred when processing opengl commands " when clicking composition window.   what done? not much, i'm afraid. need older graphics driver. other disable second card or play configuration. unfortunately not smart person decided cs6 no longer need manual opengl control user, there's no way suppress within program force-revert software-only modes in case of such issues...   mylenium More discussions in After Effects adobe
