Why does Illustrator CS 5.1 crash on save?

i running windows xp , illustrator cs 5.1 crashes every time try save.

i have made sure print spooler running, , have restarted service well.

the file format can save in .fxg (none of others work).

if save blank document, works (but there's no point in that). when put picture or else it, try save, crashes.

i have tried saving in different locations, , none of them work.

any help?

 

edit: reset preferences, , illustrator crashes whenever open well.

good thing made backup. restored previous preferences, , crashes when try save. yay.

 

edit 2: reinstalled cs 5.1. indesign crashes on startup. illustrator crashes when opened. photoshop works.

you have permissions problem. reset file permissions/ file ownership. select drive, right-click --> properties --> security, advanced --> owner. take on ownership of system files , match normal permissions suit. may need several times before straightened out.
